my office window

You are currently browsing the archive for the my office window category.

these are pictures from april 23 – 25

on the 23rd, the snow was about 6 inches past the ledge. then a storm blew up, and you can see the results.

i like the close up of the ice on the left…

but spring is on the way, you can almost see patches of tundra grass, and the snow is blowing off the frozen watery bits.

(left)  so, after the storm passed on saturday, this is what it looked like at 6 in the evening.

(right) today at noon, it’s not nearly as nice….

this morning we are in phase 1 driving conditions, which means, proceed with caution – there is a likelihood you could get stuck, and it’s not going to be pleasant getting unstuck.

phase 2 is: buddy up, and don’t go out unless you have to

phase 3 is: WE’RE GOING TO DIE. everyone in lockdown until further notice.

yeah, we get a lot of phase 1 around here.

currently it is sort of warm… 26F with 26mph wind from the north. windchill makes that seem like 13F.

how long can it last?this is from 8am today.  It has been overcast for the past week, with moderate to heavy cloud cover. then yesterday, around 5, i noticed my hand casting a shadow… this morning the sky gave me this… in just a few weeks, it will be dark more of the time than not, so i appreciate what i get.

right now, prudhoe bay loses 10 minutes of daylight per 24 hours. it has been dark when i go to work this past hitch, and by the time i leave, it will be dark when i get off work, too.

sunny todaythis was taken my first day back to work. at noon it was still a little overcast, but you can see blue sky starting to emerge. by late afternoon the sun came out and it was very nice.

the next day, there was a security report that a polar bear (VERY unusual) had been seen in the area around midnight, and if he had walked by, you would have seen him too, regardless of the time. polar bears are more commonly seen in the STP camp on the beaufort sea, 30 miles to the NE.

the view from my officehere is the first picture from my office window. this will be a view-project of what was happening at noon in prudhoe bay. it wont be the most exciting, but maybe it will be interesting to watch a whole season. the bullrail (in orange) is about 40′ from the perimeter of the building, and the conexes are about 100′ out. they are used for cold storage.

i will add at least 1 pix during my rotation, so drop in and check at least once a month. the next update will happen after 4 september. see you then! am
